The Ultimate Baby Registry for a First-Time Mom
Preparing for a baby's arrival is an absolute blessing, but it can also be overwhelming! My social media feeds are filled with baby products and recommendations; it’s all I think about. Sometimes, I feel guilty because becoming a mom and venturing into parenthood is supposed to be joyful. Yet, I’m stressed with making decisions and being targeted by marketing campaigns because I want what’s best for my baby.
When I feel stressed and overwhelmed, I try to remind myself to take a deep breath and know that my new baby will be loved, no matter what chair it’s rocked in or what baby monitor it’s sleeping next to. Purchasing baby items is a personal decision that must be prioritized by the new parents, not by TikTok videos and social media campaigns.
To compile my baby registry, I asked approximately one million questions to trusted fellow mamas. Below, I’m sharing my links and thoughts while building a baby registry that fits my lifestyle and will best prepare me to bring a new human into the world.
Where to have a baby registry
I visited quite a few stores before deciding where to register. For the convenience of accessing items and for those kindly purchasing gifts, I decided to go with Target and Amazon. Here are a few things to note when it comes to baby registries:
Use Discount Codes Wisely
Stores will often provide a discount code closer to the baby’s arrival when purchasing items from the registry. Amazon allows that code to be used up to 50 times, but Target’s code is a one-time use, so be aware of that and plan accordingly!
Utilize Free Baby Gifts
Both Amazon and Target gift a sample box packed full of items of brands and products that a new mama may want to try. This includes diapers, formula, coupons, and even clothes. It was a fun surprise to receive in the mail and open up!
Plan Showers Early
I have been so grateful for my friends and family's love and support. While it seemed extreme to plan my baby shower months before the baby's arrival date, looking back, it was the perfect timeline. I had two baby showers on back-to-back weekends approximately eight weeks before the baby’s due date. This was the perfect time as I wanted to finalize the nursery and gather all the essential items, but I was still feeling energized and in my nesting period. The closer I’ve gotten to the baby’s arrival, the more tired I’ve felt, and my urge to nest has decreased. If you’re traveling out of town for your shower, keep that in mind. Travel becomes more and more uncomfortable.
My Baby Registry Favorites
Remember, this registry is based on the priorities that my husband and I set for our family and is different for every individual! Check out my Nursey Mood Board here if you’re looking for nursey recommendations.
First on my list were books. I loved how my mom read a story to my sisters and me every night before bed, and starting a collection of books for our babe was a must. There are so many great options!
Summer Infant Pop 'n Sit Portable Booster Seat
I know a newborn will not be using this chair, but I hope to explore the outdoors with our new babe. Whether you're dining out, picnicking in the park, or visiting friends, this lightweight, foldable seat keeps the baby safe and secure while they munch away.
Nanit Pro Camera and Wall Mount
I’ve heard that the Nanit baby monitor is like having a guardian angel in the nursery. With its HD camera, real-time notifications, and sleep-tracking features, you can rest easy knowing your baby is sleeping safely. This was a priority for my peace of mind, allowing me to watch my baby from anywhere and know their breathing is being monitored.
Munchkin® High Capacity Drying Rack
I was suggested a two-tier rack, and I thought it was a brilliant way to save counter space! This nifty rack keeps all your baby gear neat and tidy and ready for the next feeding frenzy.
BabyBjorn Bouncer Balance Soft
Another recommended product from a trusted mama, the BabyBjörn Bouncer Balance Soft is known for soothing, entertaining, and giving you a moment of hands-free bliss. I also leaned into the beige aesthetic, so it matched the decor in my home.
Mockingbird Single to Double Stroller
Now, let's talk wheels. After a lot of research, I chose to go with the Mockingbird Single to Double Stroller. I loved the idea that it effortlessly transforms from a single to a double stroller as your family grows. It also offers various attachments, like a car seat carrier, a baby bassinet, and, of course, the most important, a snack tray!
Boon GRUB 2-in-1 Convertible High Chair for Baby & Toddler Chair
Again, I’m thinking ahead with this high chair. I love the idea of having my family around the dinner table in the near future. After a lot of research, I went with a chair that aesthetically fits in my home. The best part is that it can be washed in the dishwasher! That, to me, is a win!
So, there you have it—a peek into the world of baby registry essentials. Remember, every mom and baby is unique, so trust your instincts and have fun curating your own list of baby goodies. I will be sure to update you with my thoughts as our little bundle of joy puts these items to the test! Until then, happy parenting!
