A Babymoon to Galveston, Texas

As the arrival of our little one gets closer, my husband and I decided to take a babymoon to Galveston, Texas. Visiting Galveston was the perfect getaway because not only is it a relaxing, charming town, but it’s within one hour of the Houston airport, making it a convenient location to travel to.

My main priority when planning a babymoon was what was best for us. As my husband and I prepared for our lives to become more chaotic with a new blessing entering our world, it was important to take time together and enjoy each other’s company. I also wanted to pick a convenient location, and while my husband and I found ourselves in Houston on a work trip, I knew adding a quick trip to the coast was the perfect answer to our babymoon adventure.

REAL TALK: I wanted to avoid booking another flight if I could. I had an experience at 20 weeks into my pregnancy where I passed out on a flight. All was fine, thanks to the great flight attendants, a check from the paramedics, and a call to my doctor (I guess this reaction can be common for a tired, dehydrated pregnant woman flying at high altitudes). After that experience, I decided that I would not look forward to adding an extra flight before giving birth.

Visiting Galveston

Nestled along the Texas Gulf Coast, Galveston has a rich history dating back centuries. Centuries ago, the coastal town was a bustling seaport and many of the historic buildings still stand today. Since it is only one hour from the Houston airport and the amenities stretch for miles along the coast, I would recommend getting a rental car to best explore the area.

Our Charming Retreat

We found a quaint and cozy Airbnb one-room apartment near Pleasure Pier. The cottage-style accommodation was a home away from home, complete with an adorable front porch and a short walk to the beach.

Exploring the Historic Town

One of the highlights of our babymoon was exploring Galveston's rich history. We loved walking down the streets of historic Galveston and enjoyed a drink on numerous patios (mocktails for me, of course).

We also toured the grand Moody Mansion, a stunning mansion that was built by and lived in by the island’s wealthiest residents. The tour included an audio recording that was done by the extended family of the original occupants and walked visitors through each room of the massive mansion. Although I love history and architecture, I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting Galveston.

Enjoying Local Food

Our meals in Galveston were full of seafood and a few sweets. We couldn't resist stopping at Hey Mikeys for delicious ice cream. I’d also recommend visiting Jimmy's on the Pier, a local staple that serves fresh seafood while giving panoramic views of the Gulf of Mexico.

Caffeine Please

I did not give up caffeine during my pregnancy and under my doctor’s orders, I love enjoying one cup of coffee in the morning. I would highly recommend a stop at Mod Coffee, a local favorite known for its chill atmosphere and excellent brews.

Creating Lasting Memories

Our babymoon in Galveston was a perfect blend of relaxation and exploration. From casual beach walks to delicious meals and historic tours, every moment was exactly what we were looking for. As we prepare to welcome our little one, we'll cherish the memories of our time in Galveston—a special chapter in our journey as a growing family.

A babymoon doesn't have to be extravagant or extreme to be meaningful. Sometimes, the simple moments of togetherness in a calming setting leave the deepest impressions. Galveston offered us exactly that—a peaceful retreat where we could focus on each other and the new chapter awaiting us.
